Volkswagen showcased the new Race Polo at the Auto Expo 2020. Finished in lapiz blue shade with race livery Race Polo looks striking and mean especially with those LED headlights. The new Race Polo has been given a more power bump over the last generation with over 210 horses under the hood. The third-generation EA888 1.8-liter TSI engine now produces 20 more horses over the last generation and uses a 6-speed sequential gearbox with a direct shifter.
Volkswagen has brought back the Polo Cup car after a haul of 3 years for which Ameo cup cars were used in the championship. Last year Ameo Cup was recognized as the national championship by FMSCI (Federation of Motorsport Corporation of India) and following the trend, Volkswagen is bringing in the Polo cup cars this time.
The interior of the Race Polo is stripped out of all the comfort features and gets a strong roll cage instead. replacing the OEM steering is a racing steering unit with paddle shifter and comes wrapped in race-spec suede for extra grip. The infotainment space is now occupied by a plethora of buttons required for various different functions. Volkswagen kicked off the Polo cup back in 2010 with the polo cup cars which were powered by a 1.6-liter petrol engine.
For the 2020 Polo Cup championship, Volkswagen already conducted a driver selection test on 25-26 January at the Ajmera IndiKarting track in Mumbai. Top 20 drivers will be selected on the different parameters which will further participate in the upcoming Polo Cup. Polo cup will make a comeback this year after 2014, after which Vento cup took over the track further handing the track to Ameo cup in 2017.
