The three deepest AC discounts here are 3-star units. The three deepest fridge cuts are 2-star. On appliances you keep for a decade, the badge is pointing at the wrong machine.
We read 115 products carrying both a selling price and an MRP across ten Reliance Digital category searches on July 27, and one pattern ran cleanly through the two categories where it matters most. In air conditioners, the three deepest discounts were 52%, 49% and 48% — and every one of them was a 3-star unit, while the 5-star models sat at 35% and 44%. In refrigerators the same thing, more starkly: the three deepest cuts at 61%, 52% and 46% were all 2-star machines, and the shallowest discount on the entire page, 20%, was on a 4-star inverter frost-free fridge. This is not a conspiracy and it is not a coincidence either. Retailers discount what is harder to shift, and as electricity tariffs and awareness have both risen, low-rated appliances have become harder to shift. The trouble is what that does to a shopper reading a listing page sorted by discount. A refrigerator runs every hour of every day for ten or twelve years. An air conditioner runs for several hours a day across an Indian summer, and it is one of the largest single items on a household bill. The BEE star rating measures how much electricity the machine consumes to do the same work, so the gap between a 2-star and a 5-star unit compounds every month for a decade — while the discount happens exactly once. On several of the pairs below, the running-cost difference over the appliance's life plausibly exceeds the entire saving the badge is advertising. So this page is sorted by that tension rather than by percentage, and the appliances we recommend are frequently the ones with the smallest discounts on them. It also covers the categories where no star rating exists at all, because in kitchen appliances and televisions there is no efficiency figure competing with the badge and the percentage becomes a more honest guide. Our headphones list covers the smaller-electronics end of the same store.
Every price below was pulled from Reliance Digital on July 27, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Reliance Digital coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.
Five picks. The three deepest AC discounts in our sample — 52%, 49% and 48% — are all 3-star units, while the 5-star ones sit at 35% and 44%. On a machine you keep for a decade, that is the wrong way round.
Rs. 38,590 at 52% off — the biggest AC cut on this page, and it is a 3-star unit.
Why it earned its spot Fifty-two percent is the deepest air-conditioner discount here, on one of the least efficient models.
Rs. 24,990 for a 1-ton 3-star convertible at 49% off — the lowest AC price on this page.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 24,990 is the cheapest air conditioner here, and it is the right size for a small room.
Rs. 33,490 at 48% off — the third 3-star unit in a row at the top of the discount list.
Why it earned its spot The three deepest AC discounts on this page are all 3-star models, which is not a coincidence.
Rs. 43,990 for a 1.5-ton 5-star at 35% — the shallowest AC discount here, and the one we would buy.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 5,400 more than the 3-star LG, for the efficiency rating that pays that back over a decade.
Rs. 33,990 for a 1-ton 5-star at 44% — the cheapest way onto a 5-star rating here.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 33,990 is the lowest price on this page for a 5-star air conditioner.
Five picks. The same inverse relationship, in the category where it bites hardest — a fridge never switches off. The three deepest cuts here are 2-star; the shallowest is a 4-star inverter at 20%.
Rs. 22,990 at 61% off — the largest discount in this entire list, on a 2-star refrigerator.
Why it earned its spot Sixty-one percent is the deepest discount here, and a refrigerator runs 24 hours a day for a decade.
Rs. 18,840 at 52% off for a 270-litre 2-star double door — the pattern again.
Why it earned its spot The three deepest refrigerator discounts on this page are all 2-star models.
Rs. 11,000 for a 187-litre single door at 46% off — the lowest appliance price on this page.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 11,000 is the cheapest large appliance here, and single-door units are inherently more efficient.
Rs. 31,090 at 20% off — the shallowest cut on this page, on a 4-star inverter frost-free unit.
Why it earned its spot Twenty percent is the smallest discount here, which is exactly what the pattern predicts.
Rs. 23,240 for a 5-star 224-litre at 27% off — the highest-rated fridge on this page.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 23,240 for the only 5-star refrigerator here, at a modest 27% discount.
Four picks, all 5-star, where the real decisions are capacity and loading type rather than efficiency. Including the semi-automatic that is unfashionable, cheap, and genuinely useful in a monsoon.
Rs. 7,590 for a 7.5 kg 5-star semi-automatic — the cheapest appliance in this chapter, at 49% off.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 7,590 for 7.5 kg with a 5-star rating is the best price-to-capacity ratio on this page.
Rs. 14,790 for an 8 kg 5-star top loader at 46% off — the cheapest fully automatic here.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 14,790 for 8 kg fully automatic is the lowest price for that combination on this page.
Rs. 19,990 for a 7 kg 5-star inverter top loader — a mainstream brand at 30% off.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 5,200 more than the cheapest fully automatic, for an inverter motor and a real service network.
Rs. 31,990 for a 7 kg 5-star front loader — the most expensive washer here, and the best cleaner.
Why it earned its spot Front loaders wash better and use less water; they also cost Rs. 12,000 more than a top loader.
Four picks from Rs. 3,199. Microwaves and air fryers carry no BEE rating in India, so there is no efficiency number to weigh against the badge — which makes the discount a more honest guide here than anywhere above.
Rs. 4,988 for a 20-litre solo microwave at 63% off — no star rating exists for these.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 4,988 is the cheapest thing on this page, in a category with no efficiency rating at all.
Rs. 3,199 for a 4-litre air fryer at 68% off — the second-deepest cut on this page.
Why it earned its spot Sixty-eight percent off is the deepest kitchen discount here, on a genuinely small unit.
Rs. 12,999 for a 25-litre air fryer oven toaster grill at 63% off — three appliances in one.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 12,999 for a combined OTG and air fryer replaces two or three separate machines.
Rs. 6,999 at 22% off — the shallowest kitchen cut, and the brand people actually recommend.
Why it earned its spot Twenty-two percent is a modest cut, which in this category usually signals a product that sells.
A robot vacuum at 73% off and two televisions at 64% and 55% — the newest categories carry the steepest markdowns, which is exactly where inflated list prices tend to live.
Rs. 21,900 for a self-emptying robot vacuum at 73% off — the deepest cut in this entire list.
Why it earned its spot Seventy-three percent is the biggest discount here, and Rs. 58,099 is the biggest rupee saving.
Rs. 8,999 for a 32-inch HD smart TV at 64% off — the lowest TV price on this page.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 8,999 for a 32-inch smart TV is about as cheap as a branded television gets.
Rs. 32,999 for a 55-inch 4K smart TV at 55% off — the size where 4K starts to matter.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 32,999 for 55 inches of 4K is the best screen-size-per-rupee figure on this page.
Three things are worth more than the badge on this page. First, and specific to this category, run the running-cost sum before the discount sum: the difference between a 3-star and a 5-star air conditioner of the same tonnage, or a 2-star and a 4-star refrigerator, is a recurring monthly cost that on a decade-long appliance frequently exceeds the one-time saving. Second, exchange and bank offers on large appliances are usually worth more than any coupon — Reliance Digital runs exchange programmes on ACs, fridges and washing machines that stack on top of these prices, and our Reliance Digital coupons page is re-verified daily for the card offers that go alongside them. Third, cross-shop the specific model number rather than the category, since large-appliance pricing diverges sharply between retailers in the same week — our Croma picks and Reliance Digital deals list cover where the same stock sits elsewhere. Installation charges on ACs are separate and rarely quoted up front; ask before you buy.

Across 115 products read from ten Reliance Digital category searches, the three deepest air-conditioner discounts were all 3-star models and the three deepest refrigerator discounts were all 2-star, while the 4-star and 5-star units in both categories carried roughly half those percentages. Retailers discount what is harder to move, and lower-rated appliances have become harder to move — so the badge points away from the better long-run buy.
A refrigerator runs every hour for ten or twelve years and an air conditioner runs for several hours a day through an Indian summer, so the BEE rating compounds in a way a one-time discount cannot. Where a higher-rated model costs more up front we have said what the gap is in rupees and why we would still pay it — and where light usage or a small room changes that calculation, we have said that too.
Tonnage must match room size or an AC runs continuously and costs more than the larger unit would have. Undersizing a washing machine makes it wash badly and fail sooner. An air-fryer basket must not be crowded. At 32 inches HD is fine and at 55 inches 4K genuinely is not. None of these appear on a discount tag and all of them decide whether a purchase was good.
Microwaves, air fryers and robot vacuums carry no BEE star rating in India, so there is no efficiency figure competing with the discount and the percentage is a more useful signal there than in the appliance chapters. We have said so explicitly rather than applying one rule to the whole page. Prices read from reliancedigital.in on July 27, 2026.
Because retailers discount what is harder to sell, and rising electricity tariffs have made low-rated appliances harder to sell. Across the products we read on July 27, the three deepest air-conditioner cuts were all 3-star units and the three deepest refrigerator cuts were all 2-star, while the 4-star and 5-star models carried roughly half those discounts. The practical consequence is that a listing page sorted by discount will consistently show you the machines that cost most to run.
On a machine used daily through an Indian summer, almost always. The star rating measures how much electricity a unit consumes to deliver the same cooling, and an air conditioner is one of the largest items on a household bill — so a higher rating pays back every month for the eight to ten years you own it, while the discount happens once. On this page the 5-star Samsung is Rs. 5,400 more than the 52%-off 3-star LG. Where the calculation shifts is light usage or a small room used occasionally.
Match tonnage to room size before you look at anything else. Roughly, one ton suits about 100 to 120 square feet and 1.5 tons suits 150 to 180, with adjustments upward for top-floor rooms, west-facing walls and high ceilings. Undersizing is the expensive mistake: a unit too small for its room runs continuously without ever reaching the set temperature, which costs more in electricity than buying the correct size would have and wears the compressor out faster.
More often than its reputation suggests, and it is the best value on this page at Rs. 7,590 for 7.5 kg. Semi-automatics use dramatically less water than fully automatic machines and let you control wash time per load. What you give up is convenience, since you move the clothes to the spin tub yourself. In a monsoon there is a specific advantage: the separate high-speed spin tub gets clothes noticeably drier before they go on the line, which matters when nothing dries.
No. At 32 inches from a normal viewing distance, the difference between HD Ready and 4K is largely invisible, so the Rs. 8,999 HD set on this page is the sensible buy at that size. At 55 inches and a typical Indian living-room distance the difference is genuinely visible, which is where paying for the panel starts to make sense. Two things budget sets skimp on that no listing highlights: the panel refresh rate, which matters for sport, and the number of HDMI ports.
