Mercedes-Benz has had a special interest for India for a long time now. A fresh testimony of this keen interest in their commitment to bringing out their first all-electric SUV for the Indian market. Mercedes-Benz had launched the EQ brand in January and now, it has been showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 that took place in Noida.
EQC Edition 1886 is the model showcased at Auto Expo and it will be the one that goes on sale later in April. Mercedes-Benz had been eyeing to bring in their green revolution in India since the EQ brand’s launch. The performance is at par with 402 bhp of power and 760 Nm of torque. The EQC is powered by an 80 kWh battery pack which powers two motors, each at the axles. There is no credible data of the power split-up of the motors but the combined force can sprint the EQC to 100 kmph in an impressive 5.1 seconds. It provides a healthy range of 470 km and can charge swiftly from 10 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes flat. It also supports fast charging and the tech would mostly be sold as an add-on package.
Mercedes-Benz has gone all-out muscular with the exterior. You are greeted to a humongous grille which is now becoming a Merc statement coupled to sleek and sharp-looking LED headlights. It follows a coupe-ish design language with low and tapering roofline but is unmistakably an SUV with higher ground clearance. The taillights are sleek and have a thin LED strip running across the rear. This gives it a distinctive look and, dare we say, “Porsche” like!
The EQC Edition 1886 is unique because of the “1886” badging on the outside and well complementing 20-inch alloy wheels. The interior also flaunts similar unique cues with “1886” embroidered onto the seats. It also gets ARTICO leather with DINAMICA microfibre in a combo of Indigo blue and black. The “1886” badging continues on the centre console and floor mats as well. The dashboard is designed similar to all other Mercs and so flaunts a twin display setup, one for the infotainment system and the other for the instrument cluster. The infotainment system is backed with Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX which includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with a crisp and clear Burmester sound system.
Other features also include a sunroof, ambient lighting and cruise control along with an array of safety features to back you up on the road. Mercedes-Benz is putting in their best for the electric revolution but we are still blind on the pricing as nothing has been disclosed. But with the level of performance and features on offer we expect it to be priced over Rs. 1 crore. It will take on a fresh lot of rivals which includes the Audi e-Tron and Jaguar i-PACE.
