Maruti Suzuki pavilion in Auto Expo 2020 is the most talked-about one thanks to Jimny. Maruti finally showcased the 4th generation Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020. Maruti showcased a bunch of other new models of already selling models such as the Hybrid version of Maruti Swift. Maruti Suzuki Jimny is the perfect small off-roader capable of doing tricky off-roading, thanks to its short wheelbase.
The showcasing of Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020 might get the hopes high for many, but we shall confirm that Jimny is not due for the launch anytime soon. As reported by the Maruti Officials at the Expo - "Jimny will definitely sell in India, but not in the numbers that will make this new project commercially viable". The five-door iteration of Jimny is in talks however, but its timeline has not been decided yet.
Powering the new Jimny is the same K15B 1.5-liter petrol engine which does the power duty in new Vitara Brezza petrol, XL6, new Ertiga, and new Ciaz. Maruti's newly developed engine produces 102 Bhp and comes with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque converter gearbox unit. Maruti Suzuki also offers a 600cc turbocharged engine in the Jimny in their home country Japan, to meet the regulations of the small-car segment.
Maruti Suzuki sold the second-generation Jimny in India by the name of Gypsy, which was very basic in terms of creature comfort. New Jimny takes all of the discomforts out with cabin features like segment-leading seating comfort, new touchscreen unit, and auto climate control unit. New Jimny is built on a similar body on frame type chassis and with the small wheelbase paired with all-time 4-wheel drive drivetrain, it will be the perfect offroader. If launched in India, Jimny will be a direct rival to Mahindra Thar that is due for its facelift in the coming months.
