A main reason for the impressive success attained by Kia Seltos is the brim packed features it offers at the impressive price point of Rs. 9.89 -17.29 lakh(Ex-Showroom Delhi). It is one of the best-packed crossovers in the segment and it makes the competition look incompetent by a huge margin.
The interior plays an important role in impressing a potential buyer in India and Kia has managed to nail this aspect which we see in its impressive sales figures. The Seltos has a clean and well-packed cabin which doesn’t feel clustered and the quality of materials can match with a segment above.
The approach is wide and the front doors of the Seltos open and close in a three-step action. Once inside, you will be impressed with the amount of legroom on offer. Tall drivers will not have the slightest issue in sitting comfortably upfront. The front windshield is wide and large which gives the driver a commanding and clear view of the road ahead. Beige-Black upholstery tends to make the cabin airier and gives it a plush feel. Synthetic leather is used and the top GT variants also get ventilated front seats which are a boon for our tropical climate.
The steering wheel is well-sized and has a comfortable hold to it due to it being laden with leather. The gear knob is also leather-wrapped. All the display units on the dashboard are focused towards the driver for a cockpit experience. The plastic bits used on the inside are of premium quality and you won’t find any loose bits here. The top of the dashboard gets soft-touch treatment with a stitching pattern of the top variants.
The rear doors open and close in a two-step action and thus ingress and egress is much more comfortable as compared to other crossovers of this segment. The rear seats also offer commendable legroom and taller occupants will have a comfortable rear seating experience. Even for the base variants, Kia provides three adjustable headrests for the rear and the middle occupant gets a two-point seat belt.
The rear seats also come with ISOFIX child seat anchors and provide for a safe journey with kids on board. There is ample under-thigh support as well which is rare to come by in this segment and even with the sloping roofline, you get enough clearance from the roof. The central portion can double up as a centre armrest and even comes with two cup holders.
As Hyundai Creta is based on the same platform, both share similar seating factors and provide similar comfort features. MG Hector is the elephant in this room and thus has a huge cabin. But it's not as optimized as the Seltos and you sit in an awkward position in the second row. Tata Harrier comes close but is too cramped to tackle with the level of comfort on the Kia.
Kia has laden Seltos with by far the best infotainment setup in this segment. The top variants get a 10.25-inch touchscreen unit which is coupled to a 400W BOSE audio system of 8 speakers that also includes 2 tweeters and a subwoofer for that added bass! It gets the basic sorted with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity.
Kia has also included its voice assistant feature- UVO which is the literal short form for “Your Voice” and it can control 37 functions in the car. It also gets an embedded sim card that is free for 3 years. The user interface is lag-free and provides for a seamless and intuitive experience. The base variants, however, get 3.8-inch and 8-inch touchscreen units respectively. The smaller unit is not a touch unit and is present only in the HTE variant. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard from HTK. Various features are listed below.
Cargo space in the Kia Seltos is commendable and has a wider opening which makes it easy to load and unload luggage. Except for the first variant, the Seltos gets a large parcel tray which has its contoured area for storing frequently accessed cargo. It gets halogen boot lighting and lights up the area well. But you can get it to be brighter on the higher variants as it gets an LED setup.
There are neat storage bits on either side near the tyre wall which can be used to store small objects. There is provision for tie-down hooks to firmly hold cargo in place. Higher variants also get a 60:40 split rear seat setup which can be used flexibly to increase luggage count.
The spare tyre and emergency toolkit is neatly tucked away beneath the soft touch cargo floor and can be accessed with a simple strap present at the opening end. The cargo space in Kia Seltos still manages to surpass that of Hyundai Creta but gravely misses the mark with that of MG Hector which has an insane 587 litre of volume. Tata offers a tad bit less as it sacrifices cargo and rear-seating comfort for its slanting roofline.
The interior layout in Kia Seltos is a balance of comfort and technology. Kia has given due importance to both rows and thus provides for a comfortable driving as well as accompanying experience. Features are plentiful and no gimmicks whatsoever. The quality of materials used is top-notch and there are no loose ends to point at. Kia has done an impressive job with the Seltos and that shows in the amount of feedback the brand is getting in terms of sales.
