Honda brought back the “Civic” nameplate to India after a gap of 6 years. The first-generation Civic in India(8th-Generation worldwide) was a very loved sedan and found a special place among the enthusiasts. The sleek design language and futuristic design remain fresh to this day.
The 10th Generation Civic was launched in India as the Second Gen in March 2019 which was greeted with much enthusiasm. 2020 Civic is priced from Rs. 17,93,000 and is available in three variants, namely V, VX and ZX. Currently, it's only available in a 1.8L petrol engine and pumps out 141 bhp and 174 Nm and is coupled to a CVT. Honda will launch a facelift model soon in the coming months and the Civic is slated to get some notable updates.
The 2020 Honda Civic will carry forward its 1.8L petrol engine and will stay coupled to the CVT. As for the diesel engine, Honda is planning on reintroducing it by the end of this year as a BS6 compliant unit. Honda might also introduce the 9-Speed automatic transmission in the diesel engine which currently available for the Honda CR-V. The diesel engine will not lose out in performance after its BS6 conversion and will continue to provide with 119 bhp and 300 Nm.
Honda Civic got its 2020 updates for the international variants and those updates would trickle down for the Indian line-up as well due to minimal differences. Updates on the outside include new LED DRLs, tweaked front and rear bumpers with restyled fog lamp housing and full LED headlights will now come as standard.
The Civic will also get newly designed alloy wheels with 16-inch ones for the base variants and a 17-inch shark grey alloy wheels for the top variant. It might also get new exterior colour options to freshen up its outlook.
Updates on the interior are going to be subtle with new premium textures and most probably upholstery updates. A notable update will be for the infotainment system and climate control unit with minimal and simplified physical buttons. Other than these, it will be a carryover from last year which was already an impressive package.
Honda Civic took off for an impressive start in March 2019 with its re-entry into India. But soon it started to dwindle due to aggressive competition and most importantly, crossovers eating into the sedan market. Honda plans to bump thing up by freshening the Civic with the above-mentioned updates. It will face heavy competition in its segment from Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra.
