The Indian and Japanese have always had friendly ties and never gone head to head with each other, except just in one sphere, the Indian automotive market. The two giants, Honda and Hero MotoCorp have had quite a unique story of coexistence in the Indian two-wheeler market. This is because both were the companies that were under a joint venture called Hero Honda before the two decided to split up.

Hence, the split has also put one of their most favourite commuter bikes against each other's names, the Hero Splendor Plus and the Honda Dream Yuga. There is no doubt that the Splendor Plus sells more than the Dream Yuga in every month. But is the Dream Yuga merely neglected by the Indian audience or it actually doesn’t stand a chance against Hero MotoCorp’s best-seller, let’s find out!

What are the performance differences between Hero and Honda?

Both bikes get different capacity engines. While the Splendor gets a 97cc single-cylinder motor, the Dream Yuga gets a bigger 110 cc motor. But both the engines on offer are quite similar when it comes to the power output. The Dream Yuga gets a slightly punchier engine than the one in the Splendor Plus as it generates more horsepower as well as torque. The extra torque does help the Dream Yuga feel a bit more active in dealing with the city traffic conditions. Its engine also feels more refined and more rev-happy than the one of the Splendor Plus. However, Splendor iSmart is the quicker bike here due to its lighter weight.

In terms of ride and handling, the Splendor Plus scores more points due to its wider seat and 5-way adjustable shocks. It feels more nimble and agile than the Dream Yuga which offers comfortable seating but the heavier handlebar makes it more cumbersome to ride within the city traffic. The lighter weight of the Splendor iSmart helps it move ahead of the Dream Yuga in 0-60 Kmph sprint.

Hero’s Splendor Plus also offers better mileage than the Dream Yuga which is simply the deciding factor for a lot of customers. The 8 kmpl extra that the Splendor Plus offers converts into lower fuel costs. Overall, where the Dream Yuga excels is refinement and gear shifts whereas Splendor Plus gives more practical advantages to the user.

What are the different features on offer in both the potent commuters?

In terms of features, the Dream Yuga is simply the better bike of the two as it offers more features. It comes with tubeless tires as well as digital fuel meter which makes the overall experience quite user friendly. However, the list of extra features that it offers is just a handful.  Splendor Plus offers 5-step Adjustable shock absorbers which make the bike more dynamic in terms of ride quality. But for extra features like alloy wheels and electric start, you would have to shed more.

Overall, the Dream Yuga is the bike to go for if you want more features with your bike. It also looks more contemporary than the Splendor Plus and hence might be a go-to choice for many young audiences out there.

Which commuter prevails as the all-rounder?

Both bikes in our comparison offer quite a lot of bang for your buck. When it comes to pricing, the Dream Yuga wins hands down as it is just more value for money package. For less price, it offers you more features as well as a more refined engine. But it lacks behind the Splendor Plus in terms of fuel efficiency. Hero MotoCorp’s sheer market size and the wider availability of service centres are also a major force behind the Splendor Plus. Hence, the Splendor Plus in this comparison offers better peace of mind as well as better after-sales service, which justifies its higher price tag.
