Ever since the launch of Hero’s commuter bike, the Splendor, the fortune of Hero MotoCorp has only seen a stark rise up on the graph. With the sales of the bike beating all expectations and giving sleepless nights to its competitors, the sales of Splendor has seen no sign of slowing down. Hero MotoCorp had reported its best-ever sales figure in July-September of 2016 which was the same time around which the Splendor iSmart was launched. Hero sold a whopping 18,23,498 units of its motorcycles in that quarter which highlights the brand’s commitment towards the commuter bike segment.
After the consolidation of the original Splendor, the iSmart has turned out to be more of a sub-brand for Hero. But even then, since its launch, it continues to enjoy the love and attention of customers. Splendor iSmart is the favourite bike for many customers in the commuting bike segment. Hence now its time to see what makes this bike a go-to choice for many customers in comparison to how its rivals have done in terms of sales.
As seen from the figure below, the Splendor iSmart has more or less maintained its sales figures between 35000 to 30000 units over 8 months. But due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the sales have seen a massive slump in March 2020. This does not transform into any good news for Hero MotoCorp but as the automotive industry as a whole is on a downward trend due to the outbreak, much cannot be blamed on the product itself.
Month | Units sold |
August 2019 | 35880 |
September 2019 | 36780 |
October 2019 | 33485 |
November 2019 | 34485 |
December 2019 | 31133 |
January 2020 | 30234 |
February 2020 | 30694 |
March 2020 | 19685 |
The thing to note here is that even while the Splendor iSmart continues to sell in a healthy number, it does not enjoy the same level of demand as the original Splendor which even now sells over a lakh unit a month.
In comparison to its rivals the Splendor iSmart fairs quite well in terms of its sales figures. In the span of the last 3 months, it has been able to trump its rivals on the sales chart. The closest competitor it has on the chart is none other than the TVS Star City Plus which offers even better fuel efficiency figures.
But the higher sales figure of the Splendor iSmart just shows how much trust Indian customers have in Hero MotoCorp in the commuter bike segment. The Honda CD Dream, on the other hand, does poorly on the sales chart which might be because it does not bring anything new to the table and offers the worst fuel efficiency figures in this comparison.
Month | Splendor iSmart | Honda CD 110 Dream | TVS Star City Plus |
March 2020 | 19685 | 2890 | 12678 |
February 2020 | 26490 | 6534 | 20998 |
January 2020 | 30234 | 7989 | 23883 |
With the backing of the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero Moto Corp, the Splendor i-Smart continues to enjoy a certain level of demand and confidence in the Indian market. While the original Splonder still takes the top spot in the sales chart and tops most of the sales figures in the market, the Splendor iSmart diversifies Hero’s portfolio. It has managed to reach quite a respectable sales figure in just 4 years of its launch. Hence, we predict that the Splendor i-Smart will continue to do well in its segment as it offers quite a balanced package.
