Many Chinese manufacturers have recently started showing an interest in the Indian automobile scene. The Auto Expo also saw a bunch of Chinese automakers showcase their cars. One among them was FAW-Haima that showcased three very promising and radical cars with which they also confirmed entry into India in 2022. They showcased an urban hopper, a mid-size SUV and a very radical-looking MPV.
The 7X is a full-sized SUV that has been bought in to attract customers and to pitch interest in interested customers before Haimi’s entry into the Indian market. This SUV is relatively new internationally as well as it was revealed in China last year. When this MPV reaches Indian shores, it will take on the Toyota Innova Crysta but it is longer and wider than the Japanese offering.
The 7X is 4815 mm long, 1874 mm wide and 1720 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2860 mm. This makes it roomier inside as well, than the Innova and the wheelbase also stands extended. The cabin is plush with top-notch features and the dashboard is minimal and has a few buttons. The top half is dominated with a conjoined dual digital display just like the fellow Germans. The interior follows a dual-tone setup and beige helps it more airy and posh. The lower half of the dashboard houses air-con controls and below it is the gear level. Haimi has clustered all of the various buttons on either side of the gear level along with a rotary knob for infotainment system controls.
Leather upholstery gives the interior a premium and it goes on to the door inserts as well. The model showcased is a seven-seater and is equipped with captain seats for both second and third rows. All three rows are spacious and provide ample legroom for an average person.
It has an exterior design that will leave people in splits. It's either the “love it” or “hate it” type. There are traces of inspirations taken from many prominent automakers like the front grille. It has a similar take as that of cars from Lexus. The headlights are sharp and look rather small for an MPV of this size. But the smart use of black inserts below the headlights gives it a neutralising look. The grille and extra-large logo even left us in splits. But it is not the eyesore type! The rear is bulky as the taillights provide a proportional look. The dual-tone setup is also followed at the rear and gives this MPV a rather sporty look.
The alloy wheels look rather small for an MPV of this size and bigger ones would have looked aesthetically pleasing. But this is a trend that has been seen recently in many upcoming MPVs. It will mostly be to balance between performance and efficiency.
The 7X is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine which pumps out 187.4 bhp of power and 293 Nm of torque. This power is sent to front wheels via a 6-Speed automatic transmission and gets drive modes as well. This will also be the engine of choice for the automaker for India but they have not yet decided on the final portfolio for India. The recent boom in interest for MPVs and SUVs will make them decide on the final listing more easily and the 7X has high chances of making it when Haimi enter India in 2022.
