Read the same morning: Myntra's median men's formal shoe is Rs. 849, AJIO's is Rs. 1,435. But AJIO owns both ends — a Rs. 300 floor and an Rs. 8,000 ceiling against Myntra's Rs. 1,803.

The gap that should decide it is evidence: AJIO shows a rating on none of its 219 listings. Myntra shows one on 52 of 79. Read 2 September 2026.

📅 Update log:
2 Sep 2026 — first published. Myntra's /men-formal-shoes (pages 1-2), /men-loafers and /men-derbys read through the site's own listing payload (79 distinct listings), and AJIO's search results for formal shoes men, loafers men and derby shoes men, two pages each (219 distinct listings), both on the morning of 2 September 2026, logged out and unfiltered. On all 219 AJIO rows the rating and rating-count fields were empty. The brand groupings, price bands and the framing around sample sizes are ours; the prices are Myntra's and AJIO's. We re-read both shelves and log what changes.

AJIO has the cheaper shoe and the more expensive shelf

We read both shelves on the morning of 2 September 2026, logged out and unfiltered. Myntra's /men-formal-shoes (two pages), /men-loafers and /men-derbys returned 79 distinct listings; AJIO's results for formal shoes men, loafers men and derby shoes men returned 219.

The medians say AJIO is dearer — Rs. 1,435 against Myntra's Rs. 849 — but that hides what is actually different. AJIO's cheapest shoe is Rs. 300 against Myntra's Rs. 449, and its most expensive is Rs. 8,000 against Myntra's Rs. 1,803.

Myntra's shelf is a narrow band: 89 per cent of it sells under Rs. 1,500 and nothing on it clears Rs. 1,803. AJIO's is a full range, with a genuine budget floor and a premium top that Myntra's pages do not have at all — ten STEVE MADDEN listings at a median of Rs. 6,899, plus Dune London at Rs. 7,000.

💡 If you are shopping under Rs. 1,000, both shelves work — but Myntra concentrates there and AJIO does not. Fifty-five of Myntra's 79 listings sell under Rs. 1,000; on AJIO it is 67 of 219, so you are hunting through a shelf that is mostly priced above your budget.

AJIO shows no customer rating on any of its 219 listings

The single largest difference between these two shelves is not a price. Myntra shows a customer rating on 52 of its 79 listings. AJIO shows one on none of its 219.

This is the second AJIO shelf we read the same morning with the rating field empty on every row — the other was 288 home-furnishing listings, also zero. So it is not specific to footwear. We report the absence as observed and do not speculate about why.

What that costs you is concrete. On Myntra's shelf, thirteen listings carry more than a thousand ratings: a HERE&NOW penny loafer at Rs. 664 with 5,802, a Bata textured derby at Rs. 549 with 5,024, a Mast & Harbour suede loafer at Rs. 871 with 1,299. On AJIO, a Rs. 430 Restroad derby and a Rs. 7,199 STEVE MADDEN carry exactly the same amount of buyer evidence: none.

Nine brands sell on both, but only one has a big enough sample to trust

Nine brands appear on both shelves, which looks like an invitation to compare like for like. Most of those overlaps are one to three listings a side, which is too thin to conclude anything from, so read the table below with the counts in view.

Bata is the exception, with twelve listings on Myntra and four on AJIO. There the gap is large and consistent: Myntra's Bata median is Rs. 593 against AJIO's Rs. 1,182 — roughly double — while the discount ranges are almost identical (15–50 per cent against 18–50). Same brand, same badge behaviour, different price points stocked.

LOUIS STITCH points the same way with a smaller Myntra sample (Rs. 1,346 against Rs. 2,497), while SHUAN and Rising Wolf are effectively level. On single-listing brands like FAUSTO and Azzaro Black, the “median” is one shoe and should not be read as a brand-level finding.

The badge behaves the same on both shelves and means little on either. AJIO's RED TAPE listings show a median 83 per cent off against MRPs up to Rs. 11,499 and land at a median of Rs. 1,717; its SCHUMANN listings show 60 per cent off against MRPs of Rs. 999 and land at Rs. 400. The cheaper shoe carries the smaller badge.

AJIO's shelf, brand by brand

Because AJIO's shelf is nearly three times the size, it is worth seeing what fills it. The answer is a mix Myntra's first pages do not contain.

Lee Cooper (15 listings, median Rs. 1,320) and RED TAPE (14, Rs. 1,717) are the biggest names. U.S. Polo Assn. (Rs. 1,715), ARROW (Rs. 2,544) and Carlton London (Rs. 1,749) hold the middle. None of those five appeared on Myntra's formal-shoe pages.

The budget floor is held by names that are new to most buyers — aadi at Rs. 300, SCHUMANN from Rs. 360, Restroad at Rs. 430, Mactree at a Rs. 707 median — and with no ratings anywhere on the shelf there is nothing to weigh them against beyond the photograph and the price. Our Myntra formal shoe page covers that shelf on its own, where Bata's 50 per cent ceiling still produces the lowest median.

How we compared these two shelves, and what this is not

Both shelves were read on the morning of 2 September 2026, logged out, with no filters, no sort order and no size selection. Myntra: /men-formal-shoes pages 1 and 2, /men-loafers and /men-derbys, read through the site's own window.__myx payload, giving 92 rows and 79 distinct listings after de-duplicating the same product name at the same price. AJIO: the site's own search results for formal shoes men, loafers men and derby shoes men, two pages per term, giving 219 distinct listings. Price, MRP, discount, rating and rating count are each site's own fields exactly as served; on all 219 AJIO rows the rating and rating-count fields came back empty, and we report that absence as observed without speculating about the reason. This is not a like-for-like product comparison: even within a shared brand the two shelves carry different models, materials and constructions, so medians and ranges describe catalogue coverage rather than the price of any one shoe. Seven of the nine shared brands have three or fewer listings on at least one side, which is too small a sample to support a brand-level conclusion; only Bata (12 against 4) is reported as a finding. The two samples are also different sizes and both are first-page snapshots rather than either retailer's full catalogue. Listing prices change without notice and differ from checkout totals once coupons, bank offers and delivery apply. We have not handled, worn or tested any shoe named here and make no claim about leather, construction, sizing, comfort or durability. Ratings are Myntra's own aggregates of its buyers and have not been audited by us.

Which shelf, for which budget

Under Rs. 1,000, Myntra is the better shelf to shop — not because it is meaningfully cheaper at that level but because 70 per cent of it sits in that band and 52 of its listings come with a rating attached. At Rs. 549 you can see that 5,024 people have bought the Bata derby. On AJIO at Rs. 430 you cannot see anything.

Between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 3,000, only AJIO has a shelf at all — Myntra's stops at Rs. 1,803. This is where Lee Cooper, U.S. Polo Assn., ARROW and Carlton London live, and if you want a recognisable mid-market brand in leather, that is the range and AJIO is where it is.

Above Rs. 6,000, the choice is made for you: STEVE MADDEN and Dune London are on AJIO and nothing comparable is on Myntra's formal-shoe pages. Whichever you use, check the coupon page before checkout — on both retailers the cart-level discount usually moves the price more than the listing badge does.

The short version

298 men's formal shoe listings read the same morning. Myntra: 79 listings, median Rs. 849 at 70 per cent off, nothing above Rs. 1,803. AJIO: 219 listings, median Rs. 1,435 at 59 per cent off, from Rs. 300 to Rs. 8,000.

AJIO shows no customer rating on any of its 219 listings; Myntra shows one on 52 of 79. On the one brand with a real sample on both sides, Bata, Myntra's median is Rs. 593 against AJIO's Rs. 1,182. Shop Myntra under Rs. 1,000; AJIO is the only one of the two with a shelf above Rs. 1,803.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Myntra or AJIO cheaper for men's formal shoes?
It depends on your budget. On the shelves we read on 2 September 2026, Myntra's median was Rs. 849 across 79 listings and AJIO's Rs. 1,435 across 219 — but AJIO had both the cheaper single shoe (Rs. 300 against Rs. 449) and a far higher ceiling (Rs. 8,000 against Rs. 1,803). Myntra concentrates in the budget band: 70 per cent of its listings sold under Rs. 1,000, against 31 per cent of AJIO's. Above Rs. 1,803 only AJIO had a shelf at all. Neither figure is a checkout price.
Why does AJIO not show ratings on formal shoes?
We can only report what the listings served. On all 219 AJIO formal-shoe listings we read on 2 September 2026, the rating and rating-count fields came back empty — not low, absent. The same was true of all 288 AJIO home-furnishing listings we read the same morning, so it is not specific to footwear. Myntra showed a rating on 52 of its 79 listings, thirteen of them with more than a thousand ratings. We have not asked AJIO why and are not speculating; the practical effect is that on AJIO you are choosing on price, photograph and the specification in the product name alone.
What is the cheapest formal shoe on AJIO?
The cheapest listing on AJIO's shelf on 2 September 2026 was an aadi men's loafer with a synthetic upper at Rs. 300, shown as 85 per cent off an MRP of Rs. 1,999. Below Rs. 500 there were also two SCHUMANN styles at Rs. 360, two more SCHUMANN at Rs. 400 and five Restroad formal shoes at Rs. 430. None of them carried a rating. Thirty-five of AJIO's 219 listings sold under Rs. 700. Prices change without notice and exclude coupons, bank offers and delivery.
Is Bata cheaper on Myntra or AJIO?
On these shelves, clearly Myntra. Bata was the only shared brand with a reasonable sample on both sides — twelve listings on Myntra against four on AJIO — and Myntra's median was Rs. 593 against AJIO's Rs. 1,182, roughly half. The discount ranges were near-identical (15–50 per cent on Myntra, 18–50 on AJIO), so the difference is which Bata models each retailer stocks rather than a different markup on the same shoe. Seven of the other eight shared brands had three or fewer listings on one side, which is too small a sample to draw a conclusion from.
Where can I buy premium formal shoes, Myntra or AJIO?
AJIO, on the pages we read. Myntra's formal-shoe shelf stopped at Rs. 1,803 (four House of Pataudi derbys), while AJIO ran to Rs. 8,000 and carried ten STEVE MADDEN listings at a median of Rs. 6,899 plus a Dune London derby at Rs. 7,000, none of which appeared on Myntra. AJIO also held the Rs. 1,500–3,000 mid-market that Myntra's pages did not reach, with Lee Cooper, U.S. Polo Assn., ARROW and Carlton London. Note that none of those AJIO listings carried a customer rating.
Prices & codes last verified: 2 September 2026
Every price, MRP, discount percentage, rating and rating count on this page was read on the morning of 2 September 2026, logged out, with no filters, no sort order and no size selection: Myntra's /men-formal-shoes (first two pages), /men-loafers and /men-derbys read through the site's own listing payload (92 rows, 79 distinct listings after de-duplicating the same product name at the same price), and AJIO's own search results for formal shoes men, loafers men and derby shoes men, two pages per term (219 distinct listings). On all 219 AJIO rows the rating and rating-count fields were returned empty; we report that absence as observed, do not speculate about why, and it implies nothing about the products or the retailer. This is not a like-for-like product comparison: even within a shared brand the two shelves carry different models, materials and constructions, so medians and ranges describe catalogue coverage rather than the price of any single shoe. Seven of the nine shared brands have three or fewer listings on at least one shelf, a sample too small to support a brand-level conclusion, and we flag that in the text rather than draw one; only Bata is reported as a finding. The two samples are different sizes and both are first-page snapshots rather than either retailer's full catalogue, so AJIO's higher ceiling reflects the pages read rather than a claim about the whole catalogue. Listing prices change without notice and are not what you are charged at checkout, which depends on coupons, bank offers, delivery charges and stock at the moment you buy; the price shown at your checkout prevails over anything here. We have not handled, worn, measured or tested any shoe on this page and make no claim about leather, construction, stitching, sizing, comfort, durability or value, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy any product or to shop with either retailer. An MRP is a maximum retail price declared by the seller and is not a price we have observed anyone paying; where we compare discount percentages we are describing arithmetic visible on the listing pages, and no wrongdoing by Myntra, AJIO, Bata, Lee Cooper, RED TAPE, STEVE MADDEN or any other company named is stated or implied. Ratings and rating counts are Myntra's own aggregates of its buyers and have not been independently audited by us. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay, and nothing here was reviewed or approved by Myntra, AJIO or any brand named.
