NTA has released a National Merit Ranking (All India Rank) of CMAT 2020 examinations based on overall scores secured by individual candidates. In case the overall score was the same for more than one candidate, the ranking was done considering:
Please note that the overall percentile score of an individual candidate was calculated using the formula:
100 X Number of candidates appeared in the examination with raw marks EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate /the Total number of the candidates appeared in CMAT.
NTA advises the participating institutions to use the said percentile score for allotment of seats in AICTE approved programs apart from other criteria, as applicable. However, it is the sole discretion of B-schools as to how they wish to screen the applicants for admission purposes and what weightage they give to any particular section. Usually, B-schools consider CMAT overall percentile scores of candidates to screen applications primarily in their selection process. Some B-schools also consider CMAT sectional cut-offs.
Participating B-schools shortlist candidates on the basis of the cut-off scores that they decide considering the NTA National Merit List as well as the volume and quality of applications received for admissions. Candidates who clear the institutional cut-off scores and meet other eligibility criteria as applicable are offered admission in the respective B-schools. It is worthwhile to mention here that candidates are required to apply to the B-schools of their choice and participate in their selection procedure in order to be considered for admission in the said schools.
In order to check CMAT 2020 percentile, the candidates should check the following formula:
Formula: Percentile P= ((N- Rank of the candidate)/N)*100
Here, P is equal to percentile and N shows the total number of aspirants appearing in CMT examination.

Now that the CMAT 2020 results have been declared and the admission process for the academic year 2020-2021 is starting at the B-schools, let us examine the selection process in general. Students should bear in mind that NTA does not conduct any centralized counseling for admission. It is the sole prerogative of individual B-schools to invite applications from prospective students and screening the same to finally offer admissions.
While the process may differ at different institutions, the major factors that decide the selection of a candidate are academic performance at the graduation level, CMAT percentile, and performance in the institutional selection process. Most B-schools adopt the traditional Group Discussion – Personal Interview (GD/ PI) method of shortlisting candidates who have applied for admission. Some Institutions also include an additional round of Written Aptitude Test (WAT) to screen applicants. Application and selection deadlines vary from school to school.
Candidates who qualify the rounds of selection and also meet the academic and CMAT score standards set by the B-school are finally offered admission.
A point to note here in the context of reservation policies of B-schools is that NTA does not impose any restriction on the participating institutions for seat reservations. Reservation is completely an individual institution's internal policy. However, the institutions that are run by the Central Government adhere to the following reservation policies while offering admissions:

It is the responsibility of the candidates to download and print their CMAT scorecard once it is made available online.

Ans: No, NTA will not release cut-off scores for admission at the different participating B-schools. The B-schools take their call as to what will be their standard of intake.
Ques: I have scored 99 percentile in CMAT 2020. Is my admission guaranteed in the B-school of my choice?
Ans: No. Even a top scorer has to qualify the specific eligibility criteria of the respective B-schools and also clear the steps in the selection procedure in order to be considered for admission. It is the sole prerogative of the institution whether it will shortlist candidates on the basis of overall CMAT percentile or on sectional percentile.
Ques: What documents will be required for admission through CMAT?
Ans: Generally, B-schools will ask for copies of academic certificates till Graduation and CMAT scorecard along with the application for admission. Individual B-schools may have additional document requirements.

Ans: In order to be considered eligible for admission at B-schools accepting CMAT score, you should have:
Ques: Are CMAT cut-offs for admission different for all participating institutes?
Ans: Since each participating institutes independently decide the minimum CMAT score they would be considered for admission, hence, it is possible that their cut-off scores differ from the other. Students will do well to follow previous year admission trends and current year’s predictions to gauge the cut-off for the B-school of their choice.
Ques: I do not meet CMAT cut-off for admission at the institution of my choice. Do I stand a chance at admission?
Ans: Chances of being considered for admission despite not meeting CMAT cut-off score is very slim. In this situation, you are advised to apply to an institute whose cut-off score matches your CMAT score.
Ques: I have received a GD/PI call letter from a B-school I applied to, but I have to travel during that time due to personal commitments. Will the school consider my situation?
Ans: It is highly unlikely that an institution would consider a candidate for admission who fails to appear for the selection process as the final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in this round. However, it does depend upon the school totally if they decide to reschedule the selection round for a candidate with exemplary academic records.
Ques: Will sectional scores be also considered for admission through CMAT?
Ans: Most B-schools that accept CMAT scores, screens candidates on the basis of their overall CMAT percentiles, and do not take sectional scores into consideration for selection. However, it is advisable that the candidates thoroughly check the admission criteria and guidelines of the respective institutions to be sure. This is because there is no specific norm that institutions can or cannot use CMAT sectional scores as shortlisting criteria.
Ques: I meet the institute’s asking cut-off score of CMAT 2020 Result, but not the required graduation percentage. Will my application still be considered?
Ans: For the majority of B-schools the two-pronged eligibility criteria of academic records and CMAT score is important to be qualified in order to be considered for admission. A candidate who meets either one of the criteria does not stand a chance in the competition to be selected for admission.
Ques: NTA does not specify any age limit to appear in CMAT. Will B-schools have an age limit for admissions?
Ans: It is a matter of internal policy of the B-schools if they wish to have an age-limit as a screening criterion.
