The cheapest web hosting is shared hosting — here is why

One server, many websites, split bill.

Web hosting gets cheap in exactly one way: sharing. On a shared hosting plan, dozens of websites live on one physical server and split its cost, the way flatmates split rent. You give up dedicated resources, and in exchange the price collapses from thousands of rupees a month (VPS and cloud hosting) to double digits.

That trade is fine for most first websites. A portfolio, a coaching-class page, a restaurant menu site, a blog — none of these need a dedicated server, and all of them are exactly what shared hosting was built for. Hostinger's own FAQ says the quiet part plainly: shared hosting is generally not suitable for hosting many websites, running an online store, or handling heavy traffic — but its cheapest plan “is enough to get you started.”

What Rs. 69 a month actually buys

For one website, the Single plan includes more than the price suggests:

• 10 GB of SSD storage — comfortable for a WordPress site with a few hundred pages and images.

• CDN — static files served from a network of edge servers, which matters for visitors far from your server.

• Integrated ecommerce and AI tools — fine for a small catalogue, though a serious store belongs a tier up.

Two things the Single plan does not include: a free domain name (that starts with Premium) and daily backups (weekly here, daily from the Unlimited plan). Neither is a dealbreaker for a first site; both are the most common reasons people step up a tier.

The fine print: upfront billing, term length, renewal

It is billed upfront. Rs. 69 a month is the 48-month price, and Hostinger's plan cards say it plainly: all plans are paid upfront, and the monthly rate is the total divided by the months. So the real transaction is Rs. 3,312 once. That is still cheaper than two months of a typical VPS, but budget for it as a lump sum.

Shorter terms cost more per month. The 83% discount is the long-term price. Pick 12 months at checkout and the monthly rate climbs; month-to-month billing carries the sticker price plus a setup fee. Cheap hosting is, structurally, a commitment product.

Hostinger's FAQ recommends its Premium plan for business sites, and for once the upsell is honest arithmetic. Premium is Rs. 80 more per month and adds the two things a growing site actually hits first: a free domain for the first year (worth roughly Rs. 700-900 on its own) and room for three websites instead of one.

The honest decision rule: stay on Single if you are launching one site and watching every rupee. Jump past shared hosting entirely if you expect real traffic spikes or run a store where an hour of slowdown costs actual money. How to pay even less than the sale price
