The Bajaj Avenger has really grown in strength over time. At different points of time, it has had models in 150 cc, 180cc, and 220cc. Now, this Bajaj Avenger family of urban cruisers includes the Cruise 220, the Street 220 and the new Street 160. The last two models are strictly sporty in nature and offer basic attire to the bike. The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is what the true Avenger bike we dreamed of. It is easy to recognise the model as very few details have changed and the rest of the things remain the same.

In present-day Avenger Cruise 220, the chrome treatment has been pushed. The Avenger 220 comes with a new instrument cluster, adding it to the league of modern bikes. The main highlight of the 220 Cruise is its large windshield and higher set cruiser like handlebars. Nevertheless, the longer wheelbase makes the Avenger 220 Cruise an amazing highway bike for the long haul.

Pros

  • Freshened up styling with new graphics

  • Improved NVH with reduced vibrations, the motor is now more refined

  • Affordable cruiser for highway ride

Cons

  • Same power and  torque

  • Missing tubeless tyres and rear disc brake

What is the power source in this Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220?

The 220cc powerplant that powers the Pulsar 220 is installed in the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220. The power and torque figures remain the same but there are some significant improvements to the motor for better refinement. The 19 PS motor offers good mid-range performance with 17.5 Nm of torque. The improved  CDI is now responsible for faster throttle input in the mid-range.

The Avenger 220 offer quick results in terms of power delivery for city and highway duties. It takes 5 seconds to reach 60 kmph mark from 0 kmph.  The bike hits a top speed of 125 kmph. It’s best to cruise under the ton as the 2-valve power mill is smooth and calm. The motor is silent as it is the same as the Bajaj Pulsar 220. The cruiser is calm and composed at around 90-100Kmph and the engine feels pretty relaxed. The riding position is easy and relaxed, and is more cruiser-like with the taller handlebars. The Cruise 220 handles just as well as the Street 160 but the bikes work great in straight highways.

How sure-footed are the brakes?

Just like the Avenger Street 220, the Cruise 220 gets disc brake on the front and drum brake on the rear wheel. Powered by single-channel ABS, braking performance is good for a cruiser bike. The Avenger Cruiser 220’s lower set handlebar cornering easy and with a long wheelbase, the comfort is somewhat magnified.

Grip from the tyres is amazing but with the spoked wheels, you don't get tubeless tyres. We wish the bike maker offers disc brakes on the rear wheel too. We have noticed that applying rear brakes at high-speed results in skidding of rear tyres, making it a hazardous affair.

What is the mileage returned by Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220?

Wearing Pulsar 220's engine, the Avenger Cruise returns good mileage figure of 40 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity of 13 litres ensures that you don't need to visit gas stations while travelling for long distances.

How is the ride dynamics?

Bajaj Auto has added a  second spring rate in the rear suspension that ensures improved ride quality while also reducing bottoming out on uneven roads. The bike's ride quality has certainly improved from before, it’s a bit on the stiffer at the front while the rear is a bit soft. But as expected, the Bajaj Avenger 220 absorbs a lot of small bumps and remains stable at high speeds too. The commanding handlebar position lets the rider control the bike in a more better way.
