There are no MRPs on this shelf, and the second number is not a discount
Before any price on this page means anything, one thing has to be cleared up. Detergent and dishwash listings on amazon.in do not carry the struck-through MRP you see on a shirt or a phone. The second figure printed beside the price is a per-kilo or per-litre rate.
We checked that by arithmetic rather than taking it on faith. Of the 85 listings in this read whose titles state a pack size, 51 show a second figure that is exactly the selling price divided by that pack size — Rs. 178 for 750 ml showing Rs. 237.33, Rs. 15 for 140 ml showing Rs. 107.14, Rs. 610 for 4 kg showing Rs. 152.50. The remainder are almost all combination packs whose titles state more than one size, so the same test cannot be run on them cleanly.
So this page quotes no MRPs and no discount percentages at all. There is nothing here to be discounted against, and any badge you think you see on this aisle deserves a second look. What is left is the only comparison that works: what a kilo of powder and a hundred millilitres of liquid actually cost.
Detergent powder: Rs. 100 to Rs. 498 a kilo, and bulk genuinely wins
Fourteen single-pack powders, divided by the weight stated in their own titles, run from Rs. 100.00 per kilo (Tide Natural Lemon & Chandan, 500 g at Rs. 50) to Rs. 498.00 per kilo (Tide Plus Jasmine & Rose, 500 g at Rs. 249). Five times, on one aisle, on one afternoon.
The bulk logic holds here in the way shoppers expect. Amazon's own Presto! Total Wash in the 8 kg pack costs Rs. 103.50 a kilo against Rs. 171.00 a kilo for the same brand's 4 kg — the bigger pack is 39.5 percent cheaper per kilo, which on a household getting through 8 kg a quarter is a real number. RIN's 4 kg at Rs. 152.50 sits between them.
Two premiums are worth knowing before you sort by price. Machine-wash powder costs far more per kilo: Ariel's Matic front-load 500 g works out at Rs. 340.00 a kilo against Rs. 140.00 for the same brand's hand-wash powder in the same 500 g size. And fragrance is not free: two 500 g pouches of Tide Plus, one in Lemon & Mint and one in Jasmine & Rose, were Rs. 65 and Rs. 249 on the same afternoon.

Dishwash liquid: the small bottle is the cheap one, which is the opposite
Run the same arithmetic on dishwash liquid and the direction reverses. Seventeen bottles and pouches run from Rs. 9.68 per 100 ml (a Vim 155 ml at Rs. 15) to Rs. 55.33 (a Satopradhan bio-enzyme 750 ml at Rs. 415). The cheapest rate on the shelf belongs to the smallest bottle on it.
Vim's own ladder makes the point without needing a rival brand. Its 155 ml is Rs. 9.68 per 100 ml and its 140 ml pouch Rs. 10.71; its 500 ml bottles run Rs. 22.80 to Rs. 27.00; its 750 ml bottles Rs. 23.20 to Rs. 46.53. The 750 ml bottle costs roughly two and a half times as much per millilitre as the 155 ml one.
The one large format that behaves is the refill pouch: 900 ml at Rs. 180 is Rs. 20.00 per 100 ml, cheaper than any of the brand's own bottles above 250 ml. If you already own a bottle, the pouch is the buy. Across these fourteen queries the same product came back repeatedly under different listings, and the prices did not agree. A Vim dishwash gel in a 750 ml bottle appeared at Rs. 174, Rs. 178, Rs. 195 and Rs. 349 on the afternoon of 13 September 2026 — Rs. 23.20, Rs. 23.73, Rs. 26.00 and Rs. 46.53 per 100 ml for what the titles describe as the same size of the same product.
Some of that is genuine variation between sellers and between variants that share a name (the Rs. 349 listing describes a gel and the Rs. 174 a cleaning gel). Some of it is just how a marketplace works: several sellers, several listings, one product. Either way it makes one habit worth having on this aisle. Search the product, not the category, and read past the first result — the gap between the first and fourth listing of a Rs. 178 bottle was Rs. 175 here.

- Powder: go big. The 8 kg pack was 39.5 percent cheaper per kilo than the same brand's 4 kg. Below Rs. 110 a kilo is a good price on this shelf; above Rs. 200 you are paying for a format, a fragrance or a machine-wash formulation.

Only listings stating a single pack size are seated — combination packs, buy-one-get-one bundles and multi-product boxes are excluded from both tables, because dividing their price by the first number in the title produces a figure that is simply wrong. Powders are priced per kilogram and liquids per 100 millilitres, and the two are never converted into one another. Detergent and dishwash bars are excluded entirely: they are sold per bar in sizes from 60 g to 800 g and belong on their own page.
